Film and Media Studies offers distance learning designed for the diverse ways students learn. Like our brick and mortar courses, distance learning courses emphasize interactivity and include numerous clips from movies and television shows. Their distinct feature as online courses, however, is that they are built around streaming audio lectures synchronized with visual slides. All of the learning materials are available to students 24/7.
Distance learning courses are ideal for students who want to make progress toward their degree from anywhere in the world. Distance learning enables students with jobs and busy schedules, travelers, professionals and individuals to pursue their degree; and for those who are simply interested in learning more about film, media and popular culture.
The B.A. in Film and Media Studies provides students with skills that can be applied in a number of fields: from the entertainment industry, including film, television and new media, to local media arts organizations, teaching and research. Based in a broad liberal arts education focused on the humanities, our students graduate with the ability to think analytically and speak and write clearly and persuasively — skills in demand across almost all sectors of the global economy. Our program develops these skills through a variety of discussion-based and writing intensive courses.
Graduates with degrees in Film and Media Studies have secured jobs in the entertainment industry as creative executives, producers, managers, and writers. They work in the media arts, in story and production development, in exhibition, distribution and film, television and video game production. They have completed graduate studies, and secured jobs in journalism as film and media critics. For a better sense of academic and employment options for graduates of our program we invite students to talk with our faculty.
