The successful MSCIS student should expect programming, network administration, database, systems design, business systems development, or management positions. The degree gives the student the required background to participate in a wide variety of management, consulting, and technical projects. The intent is for the student to have the skills and knowledge to move up the management ladder of the corporation. The targeted position after three years would be project management, team leadership or consulting specialties. For the student with previous IT experience, this degree provides the managerial skills and breadth of IT knowledge necessary to continue up the management ladder.

The purpose for the MSCIS is to:


Develop technical skills that meet the requirements of most IT businesses.
Provide application development and maintenance skills that would apply to a technically heterogeneous company.
Provide training that includes programming, database management, and networking on LANs and backbones.
Provide management-level training on project management, IT accounting, personal communications, and planning/costing.

Students can expect to learn:


A broad range of IT related topics that include programming, networking, database management, systems analysis and design, and IT management.
A skill set equivalent to an undergrad CIS major (foundation classes).
