The Master of Science in Computer Science (MSCS) is targeted at working professionals seeking to upgrade their computer skills. The degree program fosters innovative thinking and encourages new approaches to solving problems through the use of emerging technologies. It provides students with the advanced knowledge and skills necessary to design and use modern computer-based systems. The emphasis is on emerging technologies including embedded languages, distributed programming, wireless technologies, miniaturization (PDAs), real-time graphics, and data security.

MSCS is a thirty credit-hour degree program that consists of ten graduate courses. The subject matter covers a range of issues that focus on new technologies, graphics aimed at virtual realities, and the Internet. This means that traditional courses such as language theory, distributed programming, and operating systems, are presented in a new light. For example, language theory concentrates on mini-languages that can be embedded in other applications and have specific currency in Internet applications, threaded and distributed programming is taught in the context of the Internet and GUI interfaces, and the operating systems course is aimed at contrasting operating systems and browser technologies rather than presenting the standard operating system fare.
