If you have not yet decided on a major, or can't decide between a couple of different areas, Champlain's Undeclared/Liberal Studies option is the perfect choice. Like traditional liberal arts degree programs, this degree program features a core curriculum strong in the humanities and social sciences. But that's where the similarity ends. In addition to the required core curriculum, you will have eight courses of general electives
(24 elective credits) to be filled with courses of your own choosing as you work to narrow your
choice of major. Through the purposeful use of these electives, you will be able to explore
your career interests. You will choose what courses to take with the help of advisors who work
closely with you.
Starting in your first semester, you will choose two different introductory-level courses as a way of exploring potential majors. Your ultimate goal is to select a career concentration/major by the end of your second year -- or sooner if you find a major that fits your professional goals.
In your second, third and fourth semesters, you can continue to use your electives to explore additional areas by taking more introductory courses in two other disciplines. By the beginning of your junior year, you will need to have chosen a career concentration/major.
Typically, by the end of Year 2, you will have selected a particular discipline as your major concentration under Professional Studies, or you may have changed majors directly into a specific bachelor's degree program such as Applied Psychology or Professional Writing or Multimedia/Graphic Design or any one of our other majors (alphabetical list). Your choice of career concentration/major will determine the courses you will take in your final two years.
Each career concentration within the bachelor of science in Professional Studies is designed to provide a set of highly marketable skills in a specific profession:
