About this school

Florida Metropolitan University

Florida Metropolitan University began its venture into online learning in the winter quarter of 1999 by offering five courses on two campuses. After our initial pilot phase, FMU expanded its online course offerings to include all nine FMU campuses for the winter quarter of 2000. At the same time we received approval to develop for online enrollment any of the courses within the standardized Business Administration program. In the Fall of 2001, additional approval was granted to offer the Accounting and Criminal Justice degree programs.

Since winter term 2000, FMU has consistently added courses within these Associate and Bachelor's degrees and today all of the courses necessary to complete the degrees are available online which now includes Master's degree programs.

The courses are built and maintained on the eCollege platform which is media intensive and has highly effective pedagogical and course authoring tools. All instructors are required to complete an intensive teacher-training course, which prepares them to teach and/or create a course following specific course construction guidelines.

FMU serves primarily adult students. Many of these students are “paying their own way” and have concurrently managed careers, family, and personal lives. These students expect to actively participate and be more self-directed in their education. Online learning allows them not only to learn and practice a subject which is integral to their educational objectives, but offers them added flexibility and convenience for the completion of their degree program while continuing to manage careers, family, and home life.

Where in the past students may have had to “drop out” when employment, travel, family emergencies, or other personal demands interfered, online learning can allow them to continue their degree program without interruption.

Testimonials
The success of FMU Online is directly related to the satisfaction of our students and graduates. Even though there are so many online schools to choose from, we stand out because of our one-on-one attention provided to each individual. Our goal is to make sure every student, not most, is happy with their level of education and service at FMU Online. As proof of our success, please read the testimonials below:

Amanda Segura

I just wanted you to know what and how you have changed my life. I had recently started doing research on finding the right college to do online classes. You and three other Universities called me the same day. I only talked with you about furthering my education. All the other people that they had representing their schools didn't get my attention the way that you did. All the other Universities were just interested in getting new students to attend their college and didn't take the time to show that they really care the way that you did.

I want to tell the people at FMU Online that you made a great difference in my decision. It is very important that someone follows up and guides us "by the hand" since we are in a long distance communication.

Thank you for everything. You are great moral support.
