The nursing department is pleased to announce the creation of a new and innovative distance-learning format for its Bachelors of Science in Nursing Degree, allowing a registered nurse to obtain a Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing in a non-traditional delivery format without leaving their family, career, and home.

The University

Founded in 1971, Liberty University provides a Christian, comprehensive, coeducational environment committed to serious scholarship at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Liberty is approved by the State Council of Higher Education for Virginia and is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools to award degrees at the associate, bachelor's, master's, and doctoral levels.

The Department of Nursing- Credibility

Liberty's carefully selected faculty, through dedication to academic excellence and education of the whole person, are continuously challenged by the recognition that we have the opportunity to impact the world's greatest asset- our students. Most of our nursing faculty are involved in clinical practice, possess advanced degrees and certifications in their areas of specialty, and are actively involved in professional development and community service. As Christian educators, they are also committed to shaping the minds of students both academically and spiritually. This commitment to our students teaches them more than just how to make a living - it teaches them how to live.

The Department of Nursing is fully accredited by the National League for Nursing (NLN), holds preliminary approval from the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE), and is approved by the Virginia State Board of Nursing.

Online RN-to-BSN - Convenience

Our innovative distance-learning format allows registered nurses to obtain a Bachelor of Science in Nursing in a non-traditional delivery format without leaving their family, career, and home.

Classes are admitted in May, August, and January of each year. The concept of Cohort education utilized by the nursing department fosters relationships and a group support network between nursing students by establishing a common goal of completing a degree in a non-traditional course delivery method.

Only six-credit hours of on-campus residency are required. These classes are offered in a one-week intensive format on the campus of Liberty University. The program, which requires a minimum of thirty-credit hours earned at Liberty, includes twenty-six required hours of nursing with the total number of credit hours required for program completion dependent on a students prior academic background and transfer work.

Students will begin the program with the first of two on-campus, one-week intensives, during this time students will have the opportunity to meet the nursing faculty and become acquainted with their high standards of teaching and service to students.

A Center of Excellence

The faculty of the RN-to-BSN program are committed to providing a convenient and enjoyable learning experience for all students. High academic standards are upheld in the atmosphere of nurturing support and caring. Graduates from the RN-to-BSN program are employed in hospital and community group settings as nursing leaders. Many continue their education to complete master's degrees or become nurse practitioners. With a nationwide shortage of advanced practice nurses and nurse educators in schools of nursing, BSN preparation opens the door to many career options.

Here's what students are saying about Liberty University's Distance Learning Program:

" I am glad that I enrolled in the DLP because spiritually I grew through the program. Between 1995 and 2000, I got married, had three children, and moved twice... I also earned my MA in Counseling, which was my dream. It was hard, but it was well worth it"

—Sacia Dear

"Because of Liberty University's Distance Learning Program, I am able to assist my husband in his ministry."

—Edna Cogdell: Germany

"Because I was established in my career, I did not want to relocate in order to pursue my education. The convenience and flexibility of the program really appealed to me."

—Gary Coiro: Westerville, Ohio

"Teaching school full-time and being a single mother of three children, there was no way that I could have gone to a university ...I would have been 100 years old before I finished! I also couldn't be gone from the house late at night. The Distance Learning Program worked well for me because I could study late at night - it's convenient. It's been a big help that way."

—Lisa Gordon

Whatever your plans for the future, we can help you prepare to meet the challenge with an education that is academically excellent.
