Minnesota State College Southeast Technical - Associate Degrees - Professional Nanny

Minnesota State College Southeast Technical
Associate Degrees
Professional Nanny

This is the only Associate in Applied Science Professional Nanny/Family Child Care degree program in the nation that is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission. It focuses specifically on the training of in-home child care providers who care for children of mixed ages.
The most significant factor in excellent child care is the quality of the child care provider. Results of international research on child care indicate that the education of child care providers is directly related to increased social, cognitive, and emotional growth of children.

Professional nannies and family child care providers are not obligated to have more than a minimal amount of training in child care. However, parents continually seek highly educated, competent in-home providers to care for their children. Professional in-home child care providers with an Associate in Applied Science degree will be extremely competitive in the marketplace. They will be uniquely prepared to care for children from infancy through school-age years, to manage the household daily routine, and to expertly operate their child care businesses.

Students will be able to complete their entire certificate and/or degree programs online. The courses are ideal for child care providers who are beginning their careers or already care for children. They may increase their effectiveness and competence through curriculum, guidance, caregiving and teaching skills, personal development, and business strategy courses. Students' child care skills will be directly evaluated during the internships at the end of their training.

-Complete an end-of-course evaluation to provide feedback to the college.
-Complete all assessment activities.
-Promptly seek tutoring help when needed.
-Follow all the appropriate rules of the college.

Courses delivered over the Internet use the World Wide Web graphical interface. They may include material to read online, exercises to complete online with interactive forms, discussion lists in which you exchange ideas with the instructor and the other students in the class, and many other types of instructional activities. Students with access to the Internet can take classes via their own computer at home. Some classes are offered on computer disks or CD-ROM disks. The disks and study materials are mailed to your designated address.

Attendance in an online course is obviously not based on "seat time" as are regular classroom-based courses. You can keep a log of time you spend participating in online discussions and completing assignments. Other work is typically considered homework.

You participate in class discussions at your discretion during the week. The earlier you get into the discussion during the week, the more and better information you will gain related to the work you'll need to do on your assignments. In other words, don't wait till Saturday or Sunday to get into the discussions.
