The 129-credit ACCESS/NJIT BAIS curriculum provides students with a solid foundation in applying the principles of computing and information systems to business and industrial problems, and managerial decision-making in areas such as accounting, finance, marketing, environmental science and manufacturing science. The program, initially developed as a joint degree with Rutgers University, is currently supported by an Alfred P. Sloan Foundation grant.
The Department of Computer and Information Science of the NJIT College of Science and Liberal Arts is responsible for all academic aspects of the degree program. The Office of Distance Learning of the NJIT Division of Continuing Professional Education is responsible for orchestrating the degree program in a distance delivery format which brings the campus to the student by means of television and computers. Together these offices help mature individuals complete an undergraduate degree of identical academic integrity to the on-campus version in spite of geographic, scheduling, or work and home-related obstacles to educational aspirations.
In particular, each ACCESS/NJIT BAIS course consists of two components: (1) a Tele-lecture conducted by one of NJIT's faculty or academic leaders, or a distinguished expert affiliated with another educational institution; and (2) an electronic dialogue in a Virtual Classroom® among yourself and other geographically dispersed students. The Virtual Classroom® is managed by an NJIT faculty mentor.
