Walden’s fully online M.S. in Education program centers on the strategies that lead to greater student and teacher achievement. Each specialization provides current theories and research findings combined with practical knowledge relevant to your classroom.

Starting in September 2007, the program will include an even greater focus on the following four themes:
  • Teacher professionalism, including beliefs and behaviors that contribute to a higher level of teacher performance

  • Cultural and linguistic diversity, and the skills needed to adapt to various learning and language styles

  • Supportive learning environments, and the keys to build a learning community that motivates and engages students

  • Teacher as a facilitator for learning, and how to leverage data assessment to be an instructional leader

The MS in Education with a specialization in Literacy and Learning in the Content Areas (Grades 6-12) is designed to help you improve your students' literacy skills while helping you teach your content area curriculum more effectively. Whether you teach History, Science, Math, Social Studies, English or other content areas, this practical and innovative degree program features research-based strategies that enable you to prepare your struggling students for more complex, abstract and sophisticated learning in your classroom.

The program is offered in a convenient online format that allows you to continue teaching while you earn your degree. Coursework is provided in a multimedia format incorporating online study, videotapes or DVDs featuring nationally known experts, and printed material.

Prospective Washington state students are advised to contact the Office of the Superintendent of Public Instruction at 360-725-6320 or profed@ospi.wednet.edu to determine whether this education program is approved for teacher certification or endorsements in Washington state. Additionally, teachers are advised to contact their individual school district as to whether this program may qualify for salary advancement.
