| About this School |
| Atlanta College of Art, established in 1905, was the first not-for-profit college of design and art in the Southeastern United States. An original partner of Atlanta's Woodruff Arts Center, Atlanta College of Art adjoins the High Museum of Art, Atlanta Symphony Orchestra and the Alliance Theatre. A participant in Atlanta's rich cultural landscape, it offers programming to the Atlanta region through the Georgia Artists Registry, ACA Gallery shows, and adult education. The college is located in Midtown Atlanta, a business district that is home of arts and culture in metropolitan Atlanta.
In the Fall of 2005, much to the disapproval of the students and faculty, the Woodruff Arts Center announced that ACA would consolidate with the Savanah College of Art and Design, there was protest and outrage throughout the Artistic community. Most recently, the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools informed SCAD and ACA that it had approved the consolidation/merger of the Savannah College of Art and Design with the Atlanta College of Art. The consolidation takes effect in June of 2006.
