Devry University - New Jersey Bachelor degree Biomedical Informatics: DeVry designed its Biomedical Informatics program to prepare graduates for professional positions in health care informatics and applied bioinformatics. Health care informatics combines knowledge of information technology, health care systems and life sciences to develop effective and efficient use of information to implement improved health care systems. Bioinformatics focuses on developing and managing information systems used in areas such as genomic research, forensics, and pharmaceutical and agricultural development.

The BMI program is designed to produce graduates who are able to:
-Use principles of life sciences, mathematics and informatics to function effectively in health care and biomedical work environments.
-Apply advanced computer and information technology to health care data systems, as well as to biological or genomic data systems.
-Understand the regulatory requirements that govern development of medical products as well as their use in the health care environment.
-Communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
-Work effectively in a team environment.
-Manage projects effectively and develop innovative solutions to informatics problems.
-Develop skills for lifelong learning and professional development.
-Evaluate the broader effects of informatics and identify connections between technology and economics, politics, culture, social structure, ethical responsibility, the environment and other areas.

DeVry accomplishes these goals by:
-Providing an academic program that develops a sound foundation in mathematics, biology, chemistry and computer information systems, as well as competencies in technical specialty areas such as informatics, biomedical data and health care systems.
-Incorporating into each technical course a strong lab component, including use of appropriate hardware and software for implementing and analyzing biomedical systems.
