As the proportion of the American population over the age of 65 continues to increase, so does the demand intensify for trained, caring personnel to deal with all the issues associated with the process of aging. Baltimore City Community College, as part of its continuing effort to serve the community, offers an option within the Allied Human Services Transfer degree Gerontology, the study of aging and how to serve aging citizens. Graduates find employment with private or public human and social services agencies, community organizations, advocacy groups, and healthcare institutions. Many continue their studies at four-year institutions. In recent years, increasing numbers of older adults have enrolled as students, bringing invaluable perspective and experience to class discussions and to the care and protection of older Americans.
