The mission of the Criminal Justice program at BSC is to provide the opportunity for the development of knowledge of legal rules, terminology and procedures in the criminal justice system, oral and written communication skills, and critical thinking skills essential to success in the field. Furthermore, the program provides the students with the necessary education to obtain and succeed in an entry level criminal justice position or transfer to a bachelor’s program in criminal justice.

Learning Objectives

The student will:

* Conduct research in an academic environment.
* Apply ethical and legal standards when making decisions, processing criminals and disseminating information to the government and/or public.
* Work in groups to define identify legal issues, make group decisions and implement solutions.
* Examine and analyze individual problems and case studies, apply legal rules and procedures, and explain solutions and outcomes.
* Understand and describe the criminal justice system from investigations through corrections.
* Demonstrate oral and written communication techniques necessary for conducting investigations, communicating with other professionals, and writing reports.
* Think critically and develop models for intervention and crime reduction.
