The goal of this program is to provide a graduate with the skills needed to find a job at a company that uses high-end automation equipment. This equipment ranges from devices controlled by programmable logic controllers (industrial computers) to robotic devices. A successful student will have learned core electronics skills, characteristics and operation of various types of electric motors, pneumatics and embedded controllers.
In modern production facilities the plant is often under the control of machinery connected with Ehernet, DeviceNet or ControlNet. Thus, this program has a strong component which includes computers and computer networking.
Career Opportunities: The ERA (Electronics, Robotics, Automation) program is an outgrowth of the Electronics Program at Centralia College. As more and more consumer devices have become disposable the program has moved away from consumer electronics and shifted its' focus to automation; the Electronics program now complete this transformation by including Robotics in the curriculum.
This shift has met with the agreement of the program advisory committee, a group of industrial experts who meet at least twice a year to advise Centralia College on direction of curriculum.
