This advanced emergency medical care program consists of four courses, including clinical rotation in the hospital setting and field internship with an advanced life support ambulance service. Students will learn emergency procedures such as cardiac monitoring and defibrillation and the administration of various medications and IV fluids. Successful completion of the program and subsequent certification exams will enable graduates to work as skilled paramedics, able to provide sophisticated advanced pre-hospital life support. In addition to carrying out the procedures already described, paramedics may administer drugs orally and intravenously, interpret electrocardiograms (EKGs), perform endotracheal intubations, and use monitors and other complex equipment. The student will be prepared for and have the opportunity to challenge the Paramedic National Registry exam. The program has been approved by the Kansas Board of Emergency Medical Services.
