A degree English provides students with a concentration in both writing and literature. Written and oral communication
plus the ability to analyze critically written expression contribute to students’ being aware that they have a firm foundation
on which to develop their future, either in social interaction or in career endeavors.
The English degree requires a minimum of 24 credit hours in courses which are relevant to sound written expression and to
literary works representative of noted authors. Students will master the art of effective writing, and they will apply critical
thinking in their analyses of literature. The student-learning process will become evident from the students’ oral reports,
written essays, research projects, and student/instructor conferences. Every student will be assigned an advisor who will
assist the student in maintaining a portfolio, which will reveal the progress of the student’s performance.
