The English major provides students with a broad-based foundation for transfer to baccalaureate institutions. English course work prepares individuals to succeed in many diverse fields such as advertising, business, communications, editing, film/video production, insurance, journalism, law, politics, medicine, public relations, teaching, and writing. Career opportunities include advertising copy writer or manager, columnist/journalist, editor, educator, freelance writer, information specialist, lexicographer, librarian, media planner, novelist, poet, public relations officer, publisher, radio/television announcer, reporter, researcher, technical writer, and writing consultant. Additional career opportunities include business administrator, civil servant, clergy member, foreign service officer, fund raiser, insurance examiner, legislative assistant, and program developer. Major requirements: 3 units selected from ENGL 110, 135, or 165 AND completion of either A or B listed below: a. 15 units selected from literature courses in the 100 or 200 series or LIT 430, OR b. 9 to 12 units selected from literature courses in the 100 or 200 series or LIT 430 and 3 to 6 units selected from ENGL 161, 162, or 163, totaling 15 units. Total: 18 semester units. Plus General Education and other requirements for the A.A. degree
