Early response to a fire is key to protecting lives and minimizing property damage. To improve response times, state, county and municipal governments have increased requirements for fire sprinklers, fire alarms and other types of in-place detection and suppression systems that are installed in buildings. Able to quickly notify firefighters and provide initial suppression in the critical first minutes of fire growth, these life-saving systems are what fire protection engineering technicians design and service.
As the fire service is asked to provide greater protection and response with fewer resources, the burden of first response fire protection will continue to shift towards these in-place systems, ensuring a continuing need for fire protection engineering technicians.
