The is a program designed to provide training for three groups of students: those who plan to seek employment as firefighters in the public sector, which includes the City, County, State and Federal fire service agencies; those who are currently employed in the fire protection field who seek technical training to further their careers or to prepare for promotional opportunities; and those who plan to seek private employment in the field.
Government agency positions include fire investigation, fire suppression, and fire protection engineering. Private employment includes safety instructors, insurance adjusters, fire protection specialists, fire equipment sales representatives, fire-equipment installers, and architectural assistants.
There is a wide range depending on your qualifications and where you are employed in California. Each City, County, and Federal agency pays differently. In 1997, the salary range was $25,000 to $70,000.
