The DACC Fire Science curriculum was designed to give students academic background and initial training for careers in fire fighting. A firefighter may be expected to perform many duties including: fighting fires, maintaining fire equipment and educating the public about fire prevention. Additional skills or duties might include: rendering first aid, helping to preserve a possible crime scene, testifying in court and instructing other firefighters. A genuine sense of duty to one’s community is essential for someone to excel in the firefighting career.

Upon completion of the program, a DACC Associate in Applied Science degree will be granted. If a student meets eligibility requirements and successfully passes the Illinois State Fire Marshal;s final exam. Firefighter II and Fire Officer I certification will granted. Students who wish to pursue this program should be on a volunteer fire department.
