Mission: It is the mission of Blackfeet Community College to provide transfer academic and relevant vocational programs of high quality that lead to appropriate associate degrees and certificates. Further, the college provides a core of general education instruction that results in identifiable student competence in written and oral communication, quantitative reasoning, critical analysis and logical thinking, with literacy achieved in the discourse or technology appropriate to the student’s program of study. Because of the changing nature of the demands placed upon members of the Blackfeet Tribe in today’s tribal society and beyond, the College maintains a strong commitment to providing opportunities for life-long education including basic skills development, high school completion, GED, continuing education and high quality community service programs. The Associate of Science degree with a major in Math and Science seeks to educate students pursuing a career in the math and science field. The curriculum includes all sciences and most math courses, however, can be modified to fit the student’s education needs. In effect, the student can “build their own program” based on substitution of equivalent math and/or science courses based on the math or science career desired.
The program is designed to provide a fundamental education in the field of math and /or science with a curriculum program designed to meet the following objectives: to prepare math and science students for transfer to a four-year math or science program; to provide support courses in math and science for other degree programs at Blackfeet Community College; to provide students with an 80% transferability of all general studies courses to other Montana four-year institutions of higher learning; and to prepare students to apply basic mathematical and computer tools to solve and understand math and science problems.
This curricula is designed to preserve the cultural tradition and heritage of the Blackfeet People relative to General Studies with a Major in Math and Science by integration of traditional concepts in the course of study.
