In the aftermath of the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks, the Office of Homeland Security was created to strategically coordinate government agencies in order to better forecast, prevent, and defend against future terrorist threats. Six key operational areas are now the focus of Homeland Security: intelligence and warning; border and transportation security; domestic counter terrorism; protecting critical infrastructure; defending against catastrophic threats; and emergency preparedness and response. Students examine a span of local, national and international issues and operations from terrorism to disaster planning and response. At the successful completion of the degree, students are well prepared for entry-level employment or promotional opportunity with numerous local, state and federal vocations.
