CAREER OPTIONS AND REQUIREMENTS
Students interested in a law enforcement career should be able to work under pressure, accept direction, express themselves orally and in writing, have self-respect and the ability to command respect from others, use good judgment, be articulate, considerate, flexible, compassionate, dependable, enthusiastic, fair, honest, neat, stable, industrious, intelligent, logical, mature, motivated, observant, physically fit, punctual, resourceful, tactful, and willing to listen.

Numerous career opportunities exist for qualified individuals interested in law enforcement. There are over 20,000 law enforcement agencies in the United States hiring about 100,000 new officers each year. Typical job titles are: Police Officer, Records Specialist, Community Service Officer, and Support Service Technician. Generally, starting pay ranges between $2,000 and $3,400 per month, depending upon the agency and location. Check with the Career Services Office, Third Floor, Parks, for additional information on career options and other considerations. Employment requirements vary from agency to agency. Interested persons are encouraged to contact the agency of their choice regarding their specific requirements (i.e. vision, age, physical ability, background, education, etc).
