Marketing is the process of creating, distributing, promoting and pricing goods and services. In addition, marketing is a philosophy prompting a business organization to try to satisfy customers' needs through a coordinated set of activities that also allow the organization to achieve its goals.

Marketing activities are performed in business and non-business organizations and in profit and nonprofit organizations. Many marketing positions require a bachelor's and/or master's degree. However, marketing abilities are necessary at every level and with varying degrees of skill. Job opportunities include inside and outside sales, purchasing, customer services, store marketing, shopping center positions, and nonprofit organizations, such as hospitals and schools.

The study of marketing is critical because it permeates our lives and everything we do. The study of marketing enhances consumer awareness, providing for exciting and creative careers and positions.

The Marketing program at College of DuPage offers courses to cover the primary areas of marketing: sales, advertising, retail and industrial. In addition, these courses are taught in the traditional classroom and in a simulated business situation.
