The Medical Laboratory Technician is a skilled professional who works in a clinical laboratory setting under the supervision of a qualified physician and/or medical technologist. The technician performs laboratory procedures involving body fluids in the areas of hematology, microbiology, immunohematology, immunology, clinical chemistry, and urinalysis. A laboratory technician operates automated analyzers and monitors quality control programs. Although technicians have limited patient contact, clinical laboratory testing plays a crucial role in the detection, diagnosis and treatment of disease. Upon completion of this program, students will be eligible to sit for national certification as a medical laboratory assistant.
