The Biotechnology Option of the Medical Laboratory Technology curriculum is designed to prepare graduates to work in a variety of laboratory settings. The Biotechnology option will allow a student interested in science the flexibility of choosing this new scientific career possibility. Graduates of this two-year A.A.S. degree can work in industrial, research, environmental, and epiderniologic laboratories.
The Biotechnology student will receive instruction in immunoassay, DNA and RNA isolation,
RFLP, blotting, cell preparation and transformation.
This is a selective admission program. To become eligible for this program as a recent high school graduate or Early College student, an applicant must satisfy the following requirements: 1) one year of high school chemistry, biology and algebra (or their equivalent) with a minimum
grade “C” in each course; 2) pass the Placement Test or successfully complete all required courses before the first college semester and 3) a minimum ACT score of 16 in each section (a composite score of 18 or better is preferred).
