PTA Program Mission Statement
The mission of the PTA program is to provide educational opportunities for students who desire to work with patients or clients to improve their functional abilities and to promote health and wellness.

Program Description/Philosophy
The Physical Therapist Assistant Program (PTA) program prepares individuals to provide physical therapy services under the direction and supervision of physical therapists in a variety of settings. Graduates of this program are expected to be knowledgeable, competent, self-assured, adaptable, and service-oriented providers. They are expected to implement selected components of patient/client interventions and obtain data related to the clients’ responses to the interventions. Practice settings demand ethical and moral conduct and a high degree of critical thinking, especially when responding to patient/client and /or environmental emergency situations. As a result, the PTA will be able to communicate and interact effectively with patients’/clients’ families & caregivers and other health care providers as team members.

Program Goals:
1. The physical therapist assistant works under the supervision of a physical therapist and will demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and attitudes necessary to provide function and effective physical therapy interventions in the clinical environment and community sites.
2. Students will be encourages in learning and self discovery to achieve and demonstrate professional behaviors that comply with legal physical therapy statues and meet the APTA standards of ethical conduct by the physical therapist assistant.
3. Theory, knowledge and clinical skills essential to the physical therapist assistant will be demonstrated by the physical therapist assistant graduate.
4. The program is designed for the mutual benefit of giving the PTA student an opportunity to gain the education required to be eligible to sit for physical therapist assistant licensure, and to provide the Edison three county service area with well educated physical therapist assistants to provide entry level services within area healthcare and/or community sites.
