Associate degrees in Criminal Justice + Safety Studies: A program that focuses on the criminal justice system, its organizational components and processes, and its legal and public policy contexts. Includes instruction in criminal law and policy, police and correctional systems organization, the administration of justice and the judiciary, and public attitudes regarding criminal justice issues.
A student completing this curriculum will be eligible for employment with various law enforcement, judiciary, and correctional agencies. Various positions in business and industrial security may also be available. A student with a criminal conviction will be admitted to the program, but may experience difficulty in securing employment in some criminal justice areas.
The basic liberal arts and introductory courses that constitute the AA degree with a concentration in Criminal Justice provide the foundational skills and competencies needed to transfer to another college or university in preparation for careers in criminal justice.
The Associate in Arts (AA) degree with a Youth Work concentration provides basic liberal arts and introductory courses for students who intend to transfer to another college or university‘s school of social work in preparation for careers in social work with an emphasis on youth work.
