Associate degrees in English + Language Arts Teacher Education: A program that prepares individuals to teach English grammar, composition and literature programs at various educational levels.
These suggested course selections are intended to help students to choose BCC courses that might support various fields of study at transfer schools. However, because curricula and programs are always subject to review and revision, it is important that students contact the schools directly.
The English major provides students with a Liberal Arts concentration aimed at developing excellent reading and writing skills. Students develop the ability to analyze texts, collect and organize research data, and write clearly and effectively. In addition, the program emphasizes critical reading and writing skills required in a variety of career fields including law, medicine, teaching, communications, business and industry.
The English Education pre-major is designed for students who plan to pursue a Bachelor of Arts Degree English Education. Students who successfully complete this program and who meet admissions requirements at the receiving institution, will be eligible to transfer to UNC institutions and some private senior institutions in North Carolina as juniors.
Students seeking a degree must earn a grade of ’C“ or higher on any of the following courses presented for graduation: ENG 111: Expository Writing and ENG 112: Argument-Based Research or ENG 113: Literature-Based Research; COM 231: Public Speaking; CIS 110: Introduction to Computers (or another approved computer course); and MAT 140 and MAT 140A (or a higher level mathematics course).
