A general program that focuses on the English language, including its history, structure and related communications skills; and the literature and culture of English-speaking peoples.
An emphasis in English promotes the development of writing skills, reasoning, and critical thinking. Composition and rhetoric courses focus on expository and persuasive writing including argumentation, logical thinking, and research. An integral part of each course is a lab component that is designed to help students identify weak areas in their writing, eliminate individual writing problems and thus strengthen their writing skills.
The two-year English program provides students with effective written communication skills. It also prepares students who plan to transfer into a baccalaureate program in English at four year institutions. The student is responsible for completing all prerequisite course(s) within the program.
