Sociology is the study of society and human behavior, social action, and social change. The focus of study is the application of critical thought to social processes and social problems. Specific areas of interests include social institutions, symbolic meaning, bureaucratic organizations, socialization, deviance, political systems, class society, social interaction, the family, gender, minority relations, social movements, and social change.
The program is designed for transfer to a four-year program leading to certification for teaching, which requires an academic major (Sociology) and professional education courses. Students will be advised by both the teacher education coordinator and by a faculty advisor from the Sociology and Anthropology department.
