Agricultural Economics is a field of study that deals with the application of business methods to real world problems in the production, distribution, and consumption of food and fiber. The major goals of the agricultural economics program are
1. to train students to be competent agricultural economists and
2. to train students for successful careers in agriculture.
Through the curriculum, students develop skills in basic economics, agricultural sciences, mathematics, statistics, computer science, and communication.
Graduates are recruited by a wide variety of employers in all aspects of agriculture. Current employers include local, regional, and national agricultural processing and marketing firms; banks, insurance companies, and other credit agencies; various USDA agencies, state department of agriculture, other governmental agencies, and universities and colleges. Agricultural Economics graduates are employed as farm managers, financial specialists, marketing specialists, sales representatives, agricultural production specialists, extension agents, soil conservationists,and educators.
