Students enrolled in the American Indian Studies major will gain knowledge and a basic understanding of the history and culture of Native Americans, with special emphasis on the Tribes of South Dakota. Individuals will be exposed to the Lakota language to develop a greater understanding of the Lakota culture. Students must become knowledgeable about issues which concern Native Americans such as relationships with the state and federal governments, economic issues, and cultural education.
