This major, leading to a Bachelor of Arts degree, is offered by the Music
Department for students who are particularly interested in graduate study in
some phase of the art or in private teaching, and who wish to concentrate
their efforts on achieving a high performance level on their applied instrument or voice.
In addition to music classes, lessons and ensembles, Applied Music majors
are required to fulfill a foreign language requirement (see “Foreign Language
Requirement” below), and take a comprehensive oral exam in music.
