Our program in Art Education is intensive, combining training in studio art with Ashland University’s well-known reputation in teacher education instruction, leading to teacher certification. The program requires a nine-credit-hour concentration in one of our five studio concentration areas (painting, sculpture, printmaking, ceramics, or computer art) as well as 24 credit hours of studio and art history electives. Before beginning those studies, students must take the 22 credit hours of the Art Foundations Sequence, which include introductory design and drawing classes, as well as two overview classes in art history. In addition, students are required to take 40 credit hours of requirements in Teacher Education, including the 10 credit hours of student teaching in their final semester.
The advantage of this program lies in the amount of studio training our students receive in conjunction with their education classes. The graduates of our program are not only good teachers, but well-rounded, practicing artists.
