The Art program stresses an integrated curriculum that includes the development of aesthetic awareness, technical skills, historical and contemporary art issues, and art production. The goal of this program is to prepare students with creative skills, critical judgment sound knowledge of the visual arts, and self-confidence as creative artists.

Students who chose teaching as a career, with a major in art, will be fully endorsed by the Virginia Department of Education in grades K-12. Experiential learning is encouraged, and an art internship in your area of interest, usually taken between the junior and senior years, is a valuable experience for art majors.

Coursework in the Art major
Our goal is to prepare our students with marketable skills, critical judgment, sound knowledge of the visual arts, and self-confidence as creative artists. The visual arts are rewarding and enriching experiences that can serve as a foundation on which to build a liberal arts education. As an art student at Ferrum College, you will develop your artistic skills and historical knowledge of art in courses such as:
