Program Purpose
The Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education (CAATE) accredited undergraduate athletic training program is designed to:
1. Provide an opportunity for learning in a professional atmosphere, fostering an environment conducive to the spirit, and to provide clinical experiences that contribute to optimal health care of physically active individuals.
2. Prepare students to be board certified allied health care professionals able to provide leadership in a variety of settings, and add to the field of athletic training throughout the community.
3. Prepare students, who desire the pursuit of further graduate work or professional licensure in allied health and medical fields, with the foundation knowledge and clinical skills to be successful in their advanced studies and training.

Career Opportunities
Career possibilities include working with athletic teams at all levels of competition, in a sports clinical setting or other allied health care facilities, or in a corporate/industrial setting. BOC certification is required, and a teaching certificate or advanced degree is recommended for some job positions. Many opportunities are available for graduate studies in the field of athletic training and other related disciplines (i.e., exercise science, health promotion). Starting salaries in athletic training range from $22,000 to $35,000 a year. With a master’s degree, starting salaries range from $30,000 to $36,000 a year. There are athletic trainers who work in various settings and earn from $75,000 to $125,000 a year. The benefits you receive as an athletic trainer may include a paid vacation, health insurance and a pension plan.

Expected Learning Outcomes
1. Students will demonstrate through examinations and laboratory experiences the stated learning objectives and outcomes of each required class.
2. Students will demonstrate clinical proficiency in affiliated clinical sites with the mentoring support of qualified clinical instructors.
3. Students will demonstrate mastery of clinical competencies and proficiencies required for eligibility to sit for the BOC exam.
4. Students will demonstrate knowledge and clinical skills that will gain them acceptance into rigorous advanced degree programs in athletic training or other related allied health professions.
5. Students will have the desire to advance the profession of athletic training in the community by educating the public about the role of the athletic trainer in the health care system.
6. Students will demonstrate professional, ethical, and moral behavior as students and clinicians in classroom, laboratory, and clinical settings.
7. Students will demonstrate professional, ethical, and moral behavior as future professionals in their communities.
