The B.S. degree (70 credits total) provides a rigorous foundation in biology
and related areas of science and mathematics, and is recommended for students
who plan to continue on to graduate school in biology or to professional schools
in the health sciences (e.g. medicine, dentistry, and optometry).
Invariant course requirements for the B.S.
The B.S. degrees require successful completion of 38 credits in biology, to
include:
* Biological Concepts and Methods I and II
(BIO 111, BIO 112)
* Genetics (BIO 222) and Genetics Project Lab (BIO 224)*
* Biology Distribution requirements**
o one course from Category I
o one course from Category II
o one course from Category III
* One Capstone Experience course
* A minimum of two courses at the 400- and/or 500-level, excluding BIO 491
through BIO 499 (courses used to meet other requirements can also meet this
requirement)
* Biology electives or additional courses from Category I, II, III, or Capstone
Experience courses
* Plus successful completion of 32 credits (B.S.) or 25 credits (B.A.) in
other sciences and mathematics; see separate listings below for these additional
