Bioinformatics is an interdisciplinary field of study combining aspects of Biology, Mathematics, and Computer Science. Undergraduates enrolled in degree programs in any one of these three disciplines can obtain the designation of a Concentration in Bioinformatics by completing the following courses (or their equivalents):

BI 304 Molecular Biology
BI 305 Genetics
BI 420 Introduction to Bioinformatics
BI 424 Computational Foundations of Bioinformatics (next offered, Spring 2008)
BI 585 Genomics Laboratory
CS 127 Introduction to Scientific Computation
CS 327 Algorithm Analysis and Design for Computational Scientists (Spring)
MT 226 Probability for Bioinformatics (next offered Spring 2008)

Biology majors interested in the Concentration in Bioinformatics can complete BI 304- BI 585 as part of their regular B.S. in Biology degree requirements. Upon completing the three additional courses in Computer Science and Mathematics, students will receive a letter from the chair of the department, certifying that the student has completed the requirements for the Concentration in Bioinformatics.
