The program in Biology will be designed in consultation with the faculty in biology
and will require written approval of the Chair, PREFERABLY NO LATER THAN THE BEGINNING
OF THE SECOND SEMESTER OF THE JUNIOR YEAR. The program recognizes the special
needs of the pre-college teacher and provides for a broad background in both the
biological sciences and cognate areas. The course of study will include:
MAJOR
EIGHT units, including:
BIOL 195 Ecology, Evolution, and Biodiversity
BIOL 210 Cell and Molecular Biology
1 unit "animal" course (200-level or above)
1 unit "plant course" (200-level or above)
(one of the latter two courses must come from the "field work"
category)
1 unit "analytical laboratory" work
3 units of elective
At least six of the above must include a laboratory
PLUS one unit chosen from any of the following laboratory cognates:
Geology 101 or 103
Physics 115
PLUS two units in chemistry from: CHEM 121, CHEM 211
