The Broadcasting & Electronic Media major prepares students for careers in new media areas which combine digital audio, digital video and digital graphics for the internet, as well as traditional careers in news, sports and entertainment programming.
The major in Broadcasting & Electronic Media has three options to provide students with flexibility in their career choice. Students may have an option in Broadcast News (21 hours) which prepares students for a career in Broadcast Journalism. Or students may have an option in Broadcasting General (22 hours). This option provides students with more flexibility and allows for career choices in production, sales, and management. Finally, students may study Film Techniques and Technology (21 hours) to gain a competitive video production background and a technical knowledge of many aspects of the filmmaking process and the entertainment industry. Students gather screenwriting skills, critical viewing and thinking abilities and a wide knowledge of film history.
Careers in Broadcasting & Electronic Media
Graduates with a Broadcasting and Electronic Media degree are employed at radio television stations, cable companies, networks, video production companies, corporations, government, and direct programming systems. These graduates pursue careers as anchors, audio producers, camera operators, directors, general managers, news directors, news reporters, producers, radio and TV talent, sales managers, sports reporters, video editors, videographers, video production assistants, writers, and salespersons.
