As the study of matter, its properties and how it changes, chemistry is the building block for other sciences; understanding basic chemical principles is necessary to understand other scientific disciplines such as biology, medicine, environmental science, geology, materials science, agriculture, forensic science, most branches of engineering and even art. Chemists study not only the molecules that nature provides, but learn how to synthesize new molecules to be used in many of these fields.
Working towards a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) / Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree or a minor in chemistry, your course work will emphasize fundamentals while gradually introducing you to more abstract chemical concepts.
One of the greatest assets of our program is the individual attention our faculty gives to our students. Upper level courses typically enroll fewer than 15 students, enabling our professors to address each student's needs.
Through personalized instruction, discussion, and lab work, field experience and independent research, you will be exposed to real-world applications of your major. You will graduate with a comprehensive understanding of the molecular and atomic worlds, highly developed reasoning skills, and a desire to learn more.
We encourage you to take advantage of the wide range of courses offered by the college. By combining your Chemistry/Physics program with other natural science courses you can pursue an interdisciplinary major such as Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. Perhaps, you’ll choose to integrate secondary education courses into your curriculum, giving you the opportunity to share your knowledge and enthusiasm with others. Whatever you choose, exploring a variety of interests will lead to a well-round education and unlimited career options.
