B-K graduates, as well as employers, tell us that a major strength of the program is its emphasis on practical experience with children in a wide variety of settings. Undergraduate students spend two hours per week in infant toddler and preschool settings during their introductory child development courses. They complete a semester long (150 hour) practicum with infants and toddlers, and another with children ages 3-6. Student teaching consists of 11 weeks in a public school sponsored preschool or kindergarten, followed by 5 weeks in a setting designed to meet individual needs and goals. There are opportunities to work with children with disabilities, in inclusive or self-contained settings, at every stage of the student's field experience.
