Brandeis Chinese Program offers three levels of modern Chinese language instruction on a regular basis, CHIN 10a, CHIN 20b, CHIN 30a, CHIN 40b, CHIN 105a, and CHIN 105b. It also offers a course CHIN29b for Chinese heritage learners. The curriculum of Brandeis Chinese Program is language proficiency orientated. ACTFL (The American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Language) Proficiency Guidelines is the framework for the teaching and learning. Therefore, the students will develop their proficiency in receptive skills as well as productive skills.

Chinese civilization has a history of over 6000 years. 1.5 billion people in the world speak Chinese. In other words, one fifth of the world's population speaks Chinese. With the largest population and the fastest growing economy, China is the greatest potential market for the United States. Students who combine the study of Chinese with a major or strong background in history, economics, political science, or sociology will be well prepare for graduate and professional programs. Therefore, learning Chinese not only satisfies your language requirement but it could also build your career background in government, academics, international relations, international business, journalism, trade, finance, manufacture, law, or diplomacy in the 21st century.
