The Christian Missions program is designed to prepare the student to serve in
the missionary outreach of the Christian faith. Courses are chosen to provide
foundational knowledge in Bible, theology, general education, pastoral and Christian
ministries, intercultural communication and languages.
The student, upon completion of the requirements of this program, will:
1. Articulate a knowledge and appreciation of the theology of missions.
2. Understand other cultures by appreciating the local value system in order
to adjust with a minimum of culture shock.
3. Possess skill in the area of building an indigenous church along with the
right concept of the missionarys role in relation to the national church,
government, mission board, and The Allegheny Wesleyan Methodist Connection.
4. Evidence an understanding of various kinds of missionary service and the
accompanying challenges, methods and problems in light of Scripture and contemporary
thought; learn language skills; develop a sound attitude toward the work and
the people involved.
5. Qualify for the field of choice as designated by the Mission Board of The
Allegheny Wesleyan Methodist Connection or by the board under which the student
will ultimately be serving.
