Civil and Environmental Engineering embodies engineering activities related to building society’s infrastructure and understanding the complex interrelationships between society and the natural and built environments. To fulfill these professional responsibilities, civil and environmental engineers must possess technical competence related to the analysis, design, construction, and maintenance of the built environment (structures and lifelines) as well as the natural environment and to understand the humanistic and social aspects of society’s relationship to its surroundings.
Princeton’s Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering (CEE) offers students the opportunity to pursue a variety of programs and concentration areas under a common departmental structure. In addition to the traditional areas of civil and environmental engineering described above, the Department has curricula that integrate with architecture, geology, and materials science. The considerable breadth and flexibility of the department is intended to make it attractive to students interested in a wide range of career options. The department supports five academic programs of study:

● Architecture and Engineering
- Architecture Focus
- Structures Focus
● Environmental Engineering
● Geological Engineering
● Structural Engineering
● Engineering and the Liberal Arts
