This emphasis offers a broad background in world literature in translation. It is appropriate for the student interested in focusing on global literature and culture as well as the student who elects the comparative world literature teaching option of the English Single Subject Credential program.
Requirements
A minimum of 36 unts is required, at least 24 upper-division units, distributed in the following way, with no more than two lower-division courses in any category (12 units total):
1. Required Courses (9 units): CWL 330A and CWL 330B; CWL 361 or 365
2. Area Courses (27 units): Three courses (9 units) from each of the three following groups:
A. World Literature: 100, 103, 104, 124, 334, 346, 350, 402, 403, 406, 440, 448
B. Literary Movements and History: 101, 342, 349, 414i, 422i, 430, 431, 432, 435, 437, 438, 449, 461
C. Cultural Studies: 132, 161, 220, 315i, 344, 404, 410, 420, 445, 451i, 452, 453
Foreign Language Requirement: Minimum requirement one year foreign language study. Two yeras recommended. Proficiency may be certified by successful completion of two semesters of college study, or the equivalent.
Up to six units of required CWL classes may be substituted from upper-division foreign language literature classes.
