Canisius College Bachelor degree Clinical Laboratory Scientist
A clinical laboratory scientist is trained to perform tests to help diagnose and treat disease and maintain wellness. Our program prepares graduates for direct entry into the health care field with an interdisciplinary curriculum concentrated in biology and chemistry.
The Canisius Advantage
The Clinical Laboratory Science program is campus-based for the first three years. Senior year is spent in a clinical internship at an accredited hospital laboratory school where students rotate among such areas as chemistry, phlebotomy, bacteriology, immunology, blood-bank, hematology, and parasitology. Learning is enhanced by small class sizes both on campus and during the internship.
Clinical Laboratory data is the basis of up to 80 percent of all medical diagnoses. Advances in technology and prescription medical treatment, the mapping of the human genome, and the aging of America's population all contribute to the growing demand for clinical lab professionals. In fact, there is a national shortage. Most of our students find dynamic career opportunities in laboratory medicine right after graduation. While some find jobs in other fields including administration, management, and sales.
