The Health Science major is an interdisciplinary major that provides the student with the skills and knowledge to attain employment or pursue graduate work in health related fields. Courses within the major come from disciplines in a variety of areas of study including public health, natural sciences, mathematics, nursing, social sciences, and philosophy. Within the health science major students will develop and apply knowledge drawn from the different disciplines for the promotion and protection of the health of the human population giving appropriate consideration to ethical, economical and cultural perspectives.
Many of the courses in the health science major also are requirements for other majors such as biology, chemistry, community health and nursing. Thus, it provides flexibility to students undecided their freshman year. In addition, many of the course requirements of the major are prerequisite course for entry into post graduate professional programs such as those for physical therapy or physicians’ assistant.
