The Bachelor of Science Degree Construction Engineering Technology (CET) is designed to provide today's construction industry with professionals skilled in the complexities of construction contracting. Given the diversity of the construction profession, this programcovers multiple areas to produce a graduate who is employable in a variety of professional construction positions.
The construction program is designed to provide understanding and experience in the following five major construction areas:
1. Management / Supervision
2. Accounting / Cost Control
3. Field Engineering
4. Design
5. Material Testing
Educational Objectives of the CET Program
Graduates of the Construction Engineering Technology program at East Tennessee State University will:
Obtain degree-related professional positions based on professional goals and outcomes.
Use acceptable industry standards and ethical judgments to identify, evaluate and solve complex problems.
Perform competitively in the work force against graduates from other university level construction programs.
Adapt to various and changing construction projects and technological situations.

Educational Outcomes of the CET Program
Construction Engineering Technology students are expected to demonstrate these skills at the time of graduation:
Utilize modern instruments, methods and techniques to implement construction contracts, documents and codes.
Evaluate materials and methods for construction contracts.
Determine forces and stresses in elementary structural systems.
Estimate material quantities and costs.
Employ productivity software to solve technical problems.
Utilize modern surveying methods for construction layout.
Produce and utilize design, construction, and operation documents.
Perform economic analysis and cost estimates as they relate to design, construction, and maintenance of systems in the construction technical specialties.
Selecting principles of construction law and ethics.
Apply basic technical concepts to the solution of construction problems involving hydraulics/hydrology, geotechnics, structures, construction scheduling and management, and construction safety.
Perform standard analysis and design in at least one recognized technical specialty within construction engineering technology that is appropriate to the goals of the program.
